White Oak’s property is also home to a couple of graves dating back to the 1800’s. John and Elizabeth Calaway lived on this land and our students now see their final resting places as primary sources. Primary sources are artifacts or documents that were created during a period of time that can serve as a learning tool. Graves are a perfect example and these two graves are a spark for their upcoming unit on the civil war. Students are researching inquiries about this time in our nation’s history. The things we are learning really are quite fascinating! Ask your students about this experience and see for yourself...WOES is filled with rich history. It’s exciting to think about what their research and Inquiry projects will further reveal!
