Collaborative Research

The month of February is all about love, and at White Oak, one of the things we love is collaborating with others. Fourth graders in Ms. Warnock’s class were invited to collaborate with kindergarteners in Mrs. Hausknecht’s class. The kindergarteners were starting their first research project on space, a topic that fourth grade studied in October. Fourth graders were paired up with small groups to research a topic the groups had expressed interest in. They began by helping the kindergartners write strong driving questions in their research notebooks. The fourth graders then helped the kindergarteners log in to eClass to read and find information about their topic. The fourth graders loved both mentoring their younger peers on how to find information as well as helping them to better understand what they were reading.
