“In fifteen years we’ll be teaching programming just like reading and writing...and wondering why we didn’t do it sooner.”
~Mark Zuckerberg
For the third year, White Oak Elementary students are being exposed to coding with the National Hour of Code initiative. What started as a few students in select classes has developed into a school-wide unit that spans kindergarten through 5th grade. This year, White Oak has raised the bar by featuring a month-long unit of coding through its Inquiry Special. From Bee Bots and Kodable to more advanced experiences with Scratch, Tynker, and of course code.org, WOES classes are working collaboratively to build on their experiences. Using hands-on activities, iPads and laptops, the coding work surely will make a lasting impression and support the inquiry work that is the hallmark of White Oak.
